Everyone in Sydney complains about the transport here too and while it’s not Singaporean standard, it’s certainly not that bad: everything is massive, half-empty, punctual and air conditioned. I feel like a clown pointing it out though – natives look at you like you have two heads if you tell them that the Tube is worse. I think it’s just a pet hate the world over.

I’ve taken to timing the trains on the Jubilee Line these days (such is their propensity for 5 or 6 minutes gaps).

I now know why London Underground don’t operate timetables. Their ‘minute’ is actually 80 seconds long, so they’d never fit their trains in every day!

The only good thing about mass transit systems is knowing that you don’t suffer alone!

Actually, it can be like a game. Is that flickering light an oncoming train, or just atmospheric effects on tunnel lights? Did that rat on the tracks scamper away in search of a discarded pizza crust or to avoid death by dismemberment. Is that clicking from the tracks your train or merely a symptom of tinnitus?

Actually, there are/were posted schedules. Anyone who would be gullible enough to pay attention to them should not be let out the house without a minder to avoid giving away all of their money for magic beans.

Like here in Sebring ! Ok so it’s only a small town but I love seeing rush hour – this is when 2 or 3 cars sit in line at the traffic lights.

It’s usually accepted that once these cars pass by, rush hour is officially over.

Do I miss Leeds. Ah…….NO !!!

I have to say that Chicago’s system is pretty decent. It could all be worse – we could be living in cities that have no public transport system to speak of.

The thing I really miss about the Northern Line is the ten minute journey to the platform in a dodgy, urine stench filled lift that throws your stomach back out of your mouth as you ‘land’ (at least in Hampstead and Goodge Street!)
