Sadly in London children travel free with their parents (up to four I believe under 11?) and other kids get a 'special' Oyster Card which still allows them to travel for free. Terrible. Gangs of unsupervised badly behaved children all over the bus and tube system. There must be a better way... although NYC hasn't found it! An interesting concept – free transport by height. I say take a tape measure (or is it measuring tape?) with you. When I visited London for the first time (I'm from Glasgow originally), a very long time ago, I remember we were all standing in a big line waiting to grab more pizza slices at the all-you-can-eat public trough stand. This homeless guy - taking full advantage of the long, distracting line - sneaked in, eyeballed me, and grabbed a huge slice of ham & pineapple (yes, I know, I remember which kind) and bolted right back out the door. I was fairly galled at the parents who "whispered" to their kids "OK you're five today", particularly when I really do have a 5 year old who is so tall that I nearly always get a dirty look.
