Five things I have discovered in the last 24 hours

1. Moving house is like being on a diet – you know you’ve got to do it and you look forward to the end result, but it’s about as much fun as wet shaving with a chainsaw when you’re in the middle of it.

2. Certain cats do not take well to being cooped up in a pet carrier and transported ten minutes down the road in a car. One of our furry felines leaped out of her bag like a salmon when we got them to our new home, scuttled behind the washer-dryer, and has only been briefly seen twice since. My guess is that she’s digging a tunnel back to the old apartment.

3. Getting a flat rate deal from a removals company is a sensible idea. That way, you’re less worried when your move takes a marathon eleven hours rather than the planned six and half.

4. Clearly labelling a box with ‘master bedroom’ does not provide any kind of guarantee that said box will be placed in the master bedroom by your movers.

5. Searching through a freezing cold garage at 7am for a pair of socks is not an ideal start to anybody’s day.

Garage???? Have you left Carroll Gardens and environs?

(For those who don’t know the area, in “Brownstone Brooklyn,”
onsite residential parking is the exception, not the rule.)

Eeek, I don’t envy you that task. Good luck getting settled in :-)

Point #1 - it’a good job you’re not the one responsible for giving birth then.
Point #4 - how bloody irritating is that? Four years ago we moved into a four floor house and I swear I am still sorting boxes out. Even the ones marked 1st floor (which, as you know, is really the ground floor- therefore not a great hike) ended up somewhere else.
