The one time I gave blood in Dublin, I fainted twice! First when I stupidly looked at the needle being pulled out of my arm and second, after resting I got up and tried to walk and whooosh fainted again!

I aLso fainted in the supermarket, on my way home after getting my wisdom tooth removed. That was embarrassing!

I was amazed at the amount of great food available in the blood clinic and the Guinness of course ;)

Isn't it amazing how many people are afraid of needles!

I have to inject myself with medication, which I thought I'd never be able to do... but actually I find really easy. However, I still pass out whenever I have to go for a blood test or an inoculation!

do you remember the politician who fed a burger to his daughter on national news to prove there wasn't a problem. i wonder what she thinks about his behaviour now.

i too would love to give blood however the thought leaves me weak. i'm fine with jabs but the idea of something coming out...well.

i should give it a go if for no other reason than the health benefits.

hope you're having a great needleless week.

I've been a regular blood donor for decades, first in Canada then here in the UK: luckily no squeamishness and I'm O- (a universal donor). Canada has the same indefinite ban to prevent CJD and vCJD, although I found that even the UK National Blood Service staff weren't 100% sure of the rules for it. Although I've only lived here since 2001, they were telling me that living here for more than 5 cumulative years since 1980 also invalidates you. I looked it up, though, and that is only true if you live that duration in western European countries other than the UK or France. Complicated.

Totally unrelated side note: I see you've got Fake Plastic Noodles on your blogroll. I was fortunate enough to meet Melanie at a blogger meetup she visited here in London last month.
